One of NOFMA's primary functions is to represent the interests of North American wood flooring manufacturers in matters having to do with legislation regulations and market barriers. NOFMA advocacy efforts include (but not limited to):

• Efforts to affect legislation and Congressional action
• Efforts to address uneven international trade issues affecting flooring markets
• Representation of the flooring industry in the development of green building standards
• Support for political leaders whose votes consistently align with the wood flooring industry's position
• Representation of flooring manufacturers interests in developing standards within the hardwood lumber industry that affect flooring yields
• Recommend building practices and building codes issues that affect how wood flooring will perform in residential and non-residential structures
